1930s – 1940s
A Family Business Takes Root
In 1935, Chris Maletis Sr., a Greek immigrant from the village of Limnes, founded Maletis Beverage in post-Prohibition Portland. Building on the family’s roots in Old Town Portland, where the Maletis brothers had run a grocery store since 1917, Chris Sr. laid the foundation of the company we know today.
1950s and 1960s
Building the Foundation
Under Chris Maletis Jr., the company expanded its portfolio and established itself as a preeminent distributor in the Portland metropolitan area. Alongside him, Cleo Maletis, Mrs. America 1957 and an early advocate for working families, brought a presence that embodied the values of community and forward-thinking leadership. Chris Maletis operated the Portland headquarters while Cleo managed the Washington County branch.
1970s and Beyond
The Modern Era
Continued growth brought new partnerships and an expanding Pacific Northwest footprint. Since 2000, under President Rob Maletis, the company has expanded its portfolio across every beverage category and grown its footprint to serve markets across Oregon and Southwest Washington. Today, modern facilities, leading technology, and 500+ employees carry forward a 90-year tradition of family ownership and stewardship, now continued by the fourth generation: Robbie, Peter, and Emily, who work alongside their father in leadership positions.
